Much has changed in the world of hiring since the lock down of COVID-19. Until all business are open again, the job market might be tight, which means you may need to consider casting a wider net to find your next job if your current job is not waiting for you.
During my 13 years as a recruiter, I was expected to find the employer a candidate who was currently DOING what they would be DOING, but at a higher level. This does not always necessarily mean you need to stay in the same industry.
Obviously, you can’t place a physician in a job as an Engineer, but if you are in sales, manufacturing or perhaps IT, I am sure your skills can be very transferable to many different types of companies.
Not only do your skills need to be transferable, but you should also have a real interest in what the new prospective employer does and represents in the industry. Take the time to write down what are your most transferable skills and then think what industries those could be the most applicable. Should you get the opportunity to interview for a job in a different industry, I can help you put together your responses to the hiring company’s must have requirements. Often, companies love to hire those from other industries who can implement their successful outcomes into a new model.
